Windows 10 is the latest version of Microsoft Windows operating system that was released on July 29 2015. It features better security, personal assistant Cortana, new Start Menu and much more.
This latest operating system comes with several pre-installed apps like OneDrive, Maps, Photos etc. One can choose to disable all pre-installed apps if not required in order to free up space in RAM since most users don’t need them. Also one can uninstall or disable these apps if they are no longer needed.
However many people do something else to free up space in their hard disk which I will mention later in this article.
So here are some tips that you can follow to use windows 10 efficiently :
1) Get rid of built-in apps
Many people uninstall or disable default apps in Windows 10. We can free up space used by pre-installed apps to store our files etc. However, some of these built-in apps, like Cortana and Edge Browser are quite useful so I recommend keeping them on.
2) Uninstall unnecessary programs
Now you may uninstall all the programs that your don’t need anymore. Just go to “Control Panel” then select the program which you want to remove and click on “Uninstall” button on top of its icon. If you think this is not safe enough than use 3rd party software like Revo uninstaller or similar software which can help you completely uninstall more than one program at a time without leaving any leftovers behind and that too in less time and with ease.
3) Optimize your computer
Now is the time to optimize your computer, but before you do that just type ” msconfig” on start menu search bar then select it from results. After that click on system configuration tab then go to startup section where you’ll get an option called “disable all”. Just uncheck this box after selecting all programs one by one which you want to keep enabled during system start up. Also enable selective startup so that whenever you open your computer only those programs will start while others remain disable during PC’s startup process. I recommend you not to check safe boot box unless have some critical issues with your computer because it disables all non-Microsoft services while starting up which can cause some hardware problems.
4) Uninstall unnecessary metro apps
Now open your start menu and select all apps link from left panel. Just scroll down to bottom section of the screen until you get a list of all pre-installed metro apps that come with windows 10. Select any app which you don’t use then hover your mouse pointer on it to see three dotted button appearing on its right side. Click on those three buttons to select ‘Uninstall’, ‘Disable’ or ‘Open’. If you disable or uninstall an app make sure you go back to all apps section and enable it again because these removed/disable settings are only temporary and will be enabled whenever you restart your computer unless they’re not disabled anymore by going back to same section and selectively enabling them.
5) Clear temporary files
Now press the Windows key along with the ‘R’ button to open the run tab in the taskbar, then type ” %temp% ” without quotes and click ok to open the temp folder where all your system temporary files are stored. Most of these files are important for the smooth functioning of your apps but one can find a lot of junk data like old shortcuts etc which may take up huge space from the hard disk drive. So select all files from this folder > right-click on them > select ” shift + delete” option from the right-click menu > click ok. This will permanently remove all unwanted items from your computer. That’s it now you’ve successfully removed unnecessary space occupied by built-in apps, programs, and temp files from your computer.
